The Central Valley Immigrant Integration Collaborative (CVIIC) hosted the webinar, "Immigration from Mexico and Central America: Current Trends and Policies," offered by Carlos Heredia, Ph.D. The recording of the video is included below, as well as the presentation in pdf format. The webinar examines the recent shifts in the migration flows, the policies that have been adopted and implemented in the region and considers possible policy options. The recent and ongoing developments in the region have drawn much attention and this expert opinion provides valuable insights and a well-informed analysis. Carlos Heredia, Ph.D., is a researcher at the Center for Research and Teaching in Economics in Mexico City (Centro de Investigación y Docencia Económicas, CIDE). He is an economist with extensive experience in international relations, and a former member of the Chamber of Deputies in Mexico’s 57th Congress. Heredia has worked for over 30 years with Mexican, U.S., and Canadian development NGOs on various issues related to international trade, multilateral banking, and immigration. He is the co-coordinator of the ‘Jóvenes Promesas’ project for international cooperation on education, which invites students under threat of violence in El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras to do their technical high school diploma in Mexico. He writes a fortnightly article for El Universal and is a frequent commentator in the Mexican media.
